The areolar is the flat pigmented area that sits around the nipple area of the bust and varies in size and colour significantly between individuals.

The presence of a puffy areola can represent just a normal variation in the appearance of the areola but also can be associated with some medical conditions.

In woman, a relatively common developmental problem encountered in women is that of a tuberous bust. Typically, patients have one or both busts which have a drooping tube-like shape, with a small bust base on the chest and an unusually large areolar that can have a puffy appearance.

The treatment of this condition involves surgical insertion of a Motiva cohesive gel silicone bust implant and to internally release the tight bands that cause the tube like shape. In addition, the areolar size is reduced and the nipple and areolar position may have to be lifted (bust lift) and puffiness reduced.

In men, excessive enlargement of the bust tissue is referred to as gynaecomastia. It can also be accompanied by excessive fat and skin, along with a puffy areolar. Treatment involves surgical gynaecomastia reduction and also puffiness reduction.
