Condition

Buccal Fat Excess

An excessively round or full cheek may be a sign of excess fat in a deep cheek fat compartment known as the buccal fat compartment.

This compartment can be accessed from inside the mouth during a surgical procedure to remove some of the fat excess to create a more contoured cheek and slims the face. The effect is especially apparent in the cheek contour area. There are no external scars.

It is important to understand the buccal fat pad differs in size between individuals and it is not performed in slim faced individuals as can cause a gaunt look with increasing age.
